Senior Memory Care – Finding The Right Home – Kansas City

Senior memory care facilities abound in Kansas City, but not all of them focus on the specific services that seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s need. You need a facility that provides services that address the challenges seniors and their loved ones face.

Seniors, as they age, are often burdened with memory loss. Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease become common diagnoses. Memory loss for seniors makes it increasingly difficult for them to complete the tasks of everyday living, and care in a facility for senior memory care becomes the only option left to them. As dementia progresses into the advanced stages, it becomes crucial for seniors to get the care they need in the appropriate senior memory care facility.

It is not unusual for most of us to experience some type of forgetfulness – we can’t find our car keys, or we forget the grocery list or where we put our glasses. But as we age it becomes more than just forgetfulness – it leads to real memory loss and the necessity for senior memory care becomes a reality.

There are no guarantees that memory loss or dementia can be prevented, but there are a few things you can do to help sharpen your memory and to help you know when it’s time to seek professional help and senior memory care.

  • Staying active mentally, just as with physical activity, can help stimulate the brain. There are many things one can do to stay mentally sharp – work puzzles, pursue a hobby, volunteer at a school or some other organization.

  • Socialize! Stay in touch with friends and participate in community events. This helps keep depression at bay and cuts down on stress.

  • Keep your home free of clutter – if you need help, ask for it.

  • Make notes and to-do lists of appointments and errands and other events on the calendar or in a notebook or on your phone. Check things off when completed.

  • Designate a specific spot to leave your purse, wallet, keys, cell phone, and other things, so you won’t have to go looking for them each time you need them.

  • Don’t let yourself get distracted or overwhelmed by too many things going on at once. Focus on the task at hand. It might help if you try associating the particular task with a favorite song or memory.

  • Get plenty of sleep. When you are sleep deprived, at any age, your functionality is less than when you’ve had plenty of rest. Eliminate activities that energize you in the evenings that might prevent sleep.

  • Eat healthy, nourishing food such as fruits and vegetables and whole grains. A low-fat protein diet with fish, lean meat, and skinless poultry are best. Eliminate too much sugar, including from drinks.

  • Work some physical exercise into your daily routine. Stretching and light calisthenics and moderate aerobics are good choices. Physical activity increases blood flow to your whole body, including your brain. This can help keep your memory sharp.

When it does become the obvious choice to entrust your care or the care of a loved one to a facility, make sure you find one that offers the appropriate senior memory care that you need. Clover Care Home is such a facility, and we would be happy to meet with you to discuss your options going forward. You can call 913-991-2605 or visit us online at https://www.clovercarehomes.com/.
