Alzheimer Care Home Recognizes Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
Our Alzheimer care home recognizes November as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month; a time to heighten awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with it, and their caregivers who live around it. Clover Care Home in Kansas City knows not a lot of Alzheimer care home offer services for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, but we do!
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, this month over 800 structures around the world will “go teal” to raise awareness and show support for the millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s. Teal is the Alzheimer’s Awareness Color of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). AFA chooses to use teal because it has been shown in color psychology studies to be a calming color. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 50 million people worldwide live with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. It’s important to our Alzheimer care home to raise awareness and spread knowledge.
For people with memory loss, even managing everyday life skills becomes challenging as the condition progresses – their needs can change frequently, sometimes daily or even hourly. People with this disease may not be able to communicate effectively either. Having a personalized range of care at an Alzheimer care home helps caregivers understand each individual as they are today, moment-to-moment, and find ways to address their specific needs that will improve their daily lives. One of these ways is to tap into the person’s memories while they are still intact. Although a person with dementia experiences short-term memory loss, they will usually retain many memories from years long ago. Our Alzheimer care home in Kansas City incorporates those memories into structured, personalized activities that help keep seniors connected. Helping someone in the early stages of Alzheimer’s by including them in participation in small group activities like art or music is also important for sensory stimulation.
During November and throughout the rest of the year, being aware of the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and joining the fight against it can make a real impact on your loved ones and community. Our Alzheimer’s care home encourages seniors to experience the fullness of life in a community with dignity, joy, and the highest levels of independence their health will allow.
